Information Void Faced by Beginner Beaders
The hottest women’s fashion trend, self-made jewelry,
just got another lift with the release of a new DVD aimed at
beginners. Jumping into any new hobby is
never easy, and jewelry making is no exception. Beautiful, wearable designs
result from understanding gemstones, precious metals, special tools,
stringing wire and of course, technique. Classes and books have been
the only answer till now, leaving many frustrated beginners still
wondering. After two
full years of listening
to the same questions from beginners in her store and at bead shows,
Stari Girl Jewelry and Beading Supply President, Terry Marra,
provides a close up, “How To” collection of more than 20 tips and
techniques.
“After being asked the same questions repeatedly, I
searched the usual online sources for an instructional video to sell
in my store,” explains Miss Marra, “You know, Amazon, Ebay, Google
and was shocked when I couldn’t find anything.”
When asked why making beaded jewelry is so popular,
Miss Marra smiles, “Many women who love jewelry are snubbing their
noses at paying extravagant prices for something they can make in an
hour, for a fraction of the cost.”
The quest for knowledge leads to classes. Classes are fine, but how
much info can be retained from a two hour lesson packed class? This new DVD allows
beginners to stop and go back to review steps until they are
comfortable.
Written instructions are fine for say, programming the
VCR to stop blinking 12:00, but fall woefully short when it comes to
bending wire and using hand tools. Extreme close up video of
the hand work with the proper camera orientation is the key to
providing clarity.
Stari Girl Jewelry was founded in 2002 by Terry Marra
to make cancer awareness bracelets. The company then expanded
into a complete beading supply store both online and locally. Miss Marra teaches beginner
beading classes in Sarasota, FL.
